Hiking to the Living Room

Up behind the University and Red Butte Garden, there is a little trailhead.

The trail goes up through some very pretty scenery.

Red Butte Garden

After the pretty flat(ish) country, you come to a pretty, scenic trail. It's just as pretty as the flat(ish) country, but you notice it less because you're huffing and puffing your way up the side of a mountain.

At several places along the trail, there are sweeping views of the Salt Lake Valley, the Great Salt Lake, and the mountains on the other side of the valley. I don't know what they're called, and in my head, they are known as the Tooele Mountains.

At the apex of the trail (at least as far as we were interested in going), there is a place called the Living Room. Someone took a bunch of flat rocks and made chairs and sofas out of them, all facing the valley. Apparently, it's an awesome place to go to watch the sunset.

Me and Camille chillin' on a rock sofa.

Camille was exhausted from being carried around
all day.

On the way down, I took some time to take pictures of scenery, flowers, etc. They turned out kinda blurry but it's because I couldn't figure out how to find the "close-up" function on my camera. It's still new, give me a break!

A wild rose with a bee on it.

Maybe my favorite non-person picture of the day.

This bush had heart-shaped leaves but you can't
really see them. =/
It was a great hike! It was about one mile each way, and we gained about a thousand feet of altitude. It took us an hour to get up and a little less time to get back down. Anyone looking for a short, easy-ish hike in the Salt Lake area should check this one out!
