Veteran's Day

It's tomorrow.

For anyone who isn't familiar with Veteran's Day, here's the rundown:

- It's called Veteran's Day in the USA, and has been ever since 1954, when it was changed from Armistice Day.
- It's called Armistice Day, Remembrance Day, or Poppy Day in Commonwealth countries (Commonwealth countries are the ones with the Queen on their money).
- It's observed on November 11th because the Armistice that ended WWI was signed at the 11th hour on the 11th day of the 11th month (in 1918, which isn't 11 anything, but that's OK).
- President Woodrow Wilson was the one who invented Veteran's Day (he called it Armistice Day), and in 1926 President Calvin Coolidge amended the Vet's Day proclamation, adding that it would be "a day to be dedicated to the cause of world peace and to be thereafter celebrated and known as 'Armistice Day'."

According to President Calvin, Veteran's Day is a day dedicated to the cause of world peace, not just a day for getting off work if you're a government employee. That makes sense. I think all veterans (and current military members, for that matter) strive for peace, especially the ones who have actually seen battle. How could you bear witness to the atrocities that are inherent in warfare and not yearn for peace?

If you could bear witness to the atrocities that are inherent in warfare and not yearn for peace, you are a sociopath. You should get the friggidy-fuck off my blog and never return. Also, drown yourself.

So, to all the veterans out there, and also to the men and women still serving in our military, I'd like to say this:

You rock!

Also, all kinds of restaurants give veterans free food on Veteran's Day. Get some!

P.S. Is it weird for me to say thank you to veterans when I am one?
